Ethnic Diversity Instruction

Purpose

The purpose of this unit is to become aware of the instructional needs of various ethnic groups that are represented in our schools. These ethnic groups include: African-Americans; Arab-Americans; Asian-Americans; Hispanic-Americans; and Native Americans. As we differentiate for all learners, we want to be aware of similarities and differences unique to people of various cultures and ethnicities so that we ensure desirable learning conditions for each student. Cultural values; characteristics of the society; stereotypical perceptions and biases toward the group; learning styles; and instructional strategies tat align with learners’ needs are the aspects that have been considered most of all, as they seemed significant and/or applicable to the specific ethnic group.
