Validity: the ability of a test to measure what it is intended to measure

Reliability: the extent to which a test yields consistent results, as assessed by the consistency of scores on two halves of the test, on alternate forms of the test, or on retesting

Standardized Test: a test with uniform procedures for administration and scoring. Many standardized tests allow a person’s performance to be compared with the performance of other individuals

Formal Assessment: evalutation of student achievement for accountability and is measured after students have ample time to demonstrate mastery of intended objective

Informal Assessment: assessment that occurs in a more casual manner and may include observation, inventories, checklists, rating scales, rubrics, performance and portfolio assessments, participation, peer and self evaluation, and discussion

Portfolio: collection of samples of work that highlight a student’s interests, talents, contributions, and studies; important item to bring to job interviews

Rubric: a scoring guide used as a set of guidelines for evaluating a student’s work
