This is a fantastic representation of how poverty has the ability to literally block students from their education. No matter how far they lean, stand on chairs, or shout out, poverty remains an obstacle. Also, the teacher in this cartoon looks stunned, which emphasizes the need for teachers to be educated in all kinds of socioeconomic issues, before stepping into the classroom.

 

 

This cartoon brings to life just how heavily poverty can weigh down on a child, who is doing their very best to stay afloat. Unfortunately, the burden they walk around with cannot be set down outside the classroom door and resumed once the lesson has wrapped up. These problems go against our human instincts, making them impossible to ignore. As much as the students want to succeed, there is no way they can do it on their own.
