Diverse Church Reflection
The Assignment:
Attend the worship service of a church that ministers to a minority group of which you are not a member. Note how diversity is evident and how it is unique to this church. Write a paper reflecting on your experience. Describe and discuss the specific diversity of the situation–the people attending and the worship methods being used. Describe your reactions to this worship experience; how did you feel being a minority member of this worshipping community, being unfamiliar with the people, the service and the “culture” of this situation? What did you learn from this experience and how might you apply this to teaching students from diverse backgrounds?
